I’m thinking of a place
A sort of utopian paradise
Somewhere to run from all my troubles
Somewhere south of here
To lie on some exotic beach
Perfect weather, perfect days
Somewhere to lazy out days and nights
Somewhere south of here
Local food of indeginous people
Dancing to moon songs around the village fire
Somewhere everyone and no one knows me
Somewhere south of here
Close your eyes, come with me
Smell the wind, touch the sand
Roam the woods, fall in love
Somewhere south of here
Can you see the children play
Can you hear the people laugh?
Can you feel the love I feel
Somewhere south of here?
Life, however, isn’t how we plan it
And so I’m left to dream these dreams
But where I would love to be now
Is somewhere south of here

Poetic Mood

A silent road, a crescent moon
A choir of crickets, my poetic mood
I walk these dark streets every night
And hear these sounds, and see these sights
I think of home, I think of beyond
I think of the places I belong
I look for reason, for inspiration
For a sign, for any form of direction
I’m in a trance of love of words
For I must find my meaning first
Till then this road with light from moon
Shall fuel my poetic mood

Happy birthday to me

Today I start another age (literally)
In here my heart beats nervously
It’s my birthday, and I’m twenty-one
For some reason that sounds too much
Just yesterday I was 16 (figuratively)
And that didn’t feel so…manly
Then on my 18th I remember
Writing the poem ‘Age is just a number’
I don’t feel so today though (unfortunately)
I’m growing as life would have me be
And thanks be to God who always loves me
I’m surrounded by all who love me
So thank you all, I mean it (really)
For celebrating, if at all, this day with me
May your joy for me be same for you
And to you who love me, I love you too

To You Whom I’ll Never Meet

Greeting to you out there!
You whom I’ll never meet, I fear
It’s sad but that’s just fate, or is it?
Anyway, I thought I should write you this
I might not know what you go through
I doubt I have the slightest clue
I might not know your pain and fears
Or how you’ve survived all these years
And though I would love to smile with you
I would not know what you’re hiding too
Or what haunts you when no one is looking
When you lie awake insomniac’ing’
But trust me when I tell you this
I love you more than you can imagine
And I want you to know, though this poem
That you are why I exist in this world.

you ask how I write poetry. those words that rhyme together in an unusual way that stays, with you and the ones getting wet in their rain. there’s no secret, darling. these words and their poetry that you claim to see is not even real. the only poetry I believe I ever saw was in […]

Colour My Shadow

Look at me and keep what you see

Don’t judge me, let my young mind roam free

For maturity doesn’t come with freedom

If not for mistakes, there would be no wisdom

Teach me the right way, tell me what to do

And though you talk for hours, don’t expect me to

I might obey what your old ways say

But I definitely won’t do that everyday

You can pin my body behind a book

But my mind sets sail with Captain Hook

My imagination will never be trapped

By the psychological prison you set up

I will roam the deserts of the Sahara

And explore the depths of the Bermuda

I will sail 20,000 leagues under the sea

And reign with Zeus on Mount Olympus

And just when you think I’m a lost cause

You’ll find me finding my way back to your laws

You may preach your policies, but just so you know

You can colour my shadow, but you can’t trap my soul

The words I dare not speak

Only in my head I think

The poems I dare not write

Only in my dreams do they see light

I’m trapped in my own words

Thinking I could control fate

The universe laughs at my empty head

I now know it’s too late

Too late to fight for freedom

Without losing what matters most

For what I free myself from

Is one thing of which I boast

I tried hard to bend the rules

Yet love stands strong in beating hearts

I’m left oblivious, without a clue

With none to understand, none to trust

What I fear now hunts me

What I hold dear is now at stake

If there a second option be

Please show me it and I’ll gladly take
